E-PORTFOLIO, PROCESS-BASED PEDAGOGICAL TOOL

LEAP aims to create a ‘step change’ in the use of ePortfolios as process-based pedagogical tool to improve learner and VET provider performance. It exploits digital tools including open digital badges to create an engaging learning process leading to improved performance by learners and teacher/trainers. The target group of LEAP encompasses teachers/trainers, learners (students and employed/self-employed adults), Vocational Education and Training (VET), Further Education (FE), and Higher Education (HE) centers, project partners, the European business community, and VET policy stakeholders.

The project was co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme with Grant Agreement no.: 2017-1-UK01-KA202-036522.

The objectives of the LEAP project are:

To create an ePortfolio environment to facilitate improvements in learner performance, motivation, engagement and achievement.
To create an Open Educational Resource which will be freely accessible and available on-line.
To adopt a learner-centered pedagogy using digital technology (DT), resulting in a rich, personalised and adaptive learning experience leading to improved learner performance.
To enhance access to formal and informal training, certificated and uncertificated VET programmes.
To enable VET institutes to link assessment criteria to open digital badges.
To train VET teachers, trainers, assessors and moderators to use LEAP thereby further strengthening key competences in VET.
To encourage reflective and self-directed learning leading to deeper learning and to the transfer of knowledge and learning to hands-on performance, whether in a work-based or a learning scenario.

The results of the project consist of:

The LEAP E-Portfolio: A flexible, but structured tool designed to facilitate the collaborative interaction between learners and teacher/trainers and between teacher/trainers and moderators; and to promote learner independence, the use of differentiated learner support, learning and assessment.
The LEAP E-Portfolio and Good Practice Handbook: A series of training curricula and VET courses that will make use of the LEAP E-Portfolio. The Handbook enables the lessons and experience of partners, teacher/trainers and learners to be transferred to other stakeholders interested in exploiting the use of digital open badges within an E-Portfolio such as LEAP.
Policy Report: The policy report presents the argument for the use of a learner-centred pedagogical process model incorporating open digital badges within E-Portfolios in the delivery of VET courses and how it can support and complement other approaches to VET delivery (e.g. blended learning, use of VLEs, the flipped classroom and traditional classroom based activities).
